About Young

Situated on the Olympic Highway in the South West Slopes of NSW, Young is a great place to visit and offers something for everyone.

Rich in history and character, the area was catapulted to the forefront of Colonial New South Wales with the discovery of gold in 1860. This precious metal proved to be an important catalyst in the development of Young and the surrounding area.

Widely known as the 'Cherry Capital of Australia' the area boasts many cherry and stonefruit orchards, some offering 'pick your own'. Highlights of the year include celebrating Young's history with the Lambing Flat Festival in April, fruit trees in blossum during September & October and the National Cherry Festival in Early December. Cherries are available from mid November through to late December followed by the stonefruit season continuing until the end of March.

Young is centrally located in the 'Hilltops' wine and food region, increasingly recognised for producing quality cool climate wines and produce whilst offering an authentic country experience. Cellar doors are open, offering the opportunity to taste and purchase fine wines and quality produce.

Today Young offers unique attractions, a wide range of accommodation, cafes and restaurants that suit the needs and tastes of every budget.

Make the Young Visitor Information Centre, located at the historic former Railway Station on Lovell Street, your first stop. The Visitor Information Centre is open 7 days a week and provide assistance, advice and local knowledge. The opening hours of the centre are Mon. to Fri. 9.00am - 5.00pm and 9.30am - 4.00pm Staurdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.
